This year marks the 20th anniversary of the Chevy Equinox. Hard to believe it’s already been two decades since the original midsize Equinox took the place of the Tracker, which is a name many enthusiasts still remember today despite it only being on the lineup for 15 years. Imagine what that means for the future legacy of the Equinox! To celebrate the model’s big milestone, Chevrolet has completely redesigned the compact crossover to bring it into its fourth generation. Today we thought we’d dig into what’s new in the 2025 Chevy Equinox, as its release date is certainly on the horizon sometime during the 2024 calendar year.
Powertrain & Driving Modes
Let’s first take a look at the vehicle’s powertrain, of which there will only be one option. The newest iteration of the Equinox will be powered by a 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of generating 175 horsepower alongside 184 pound-feet of torque. While you can’t choose between different engine options, you will have your choice of either front-wheel drive with a continuously variable transmission system or all-wheel drive with an eight-speed automatic. If you choose the latter, you’ll also benefit from 1,500 pounds of trailering capacity.
One great new feature that will be found in the Equinox for the first time ever will be offered on both the RS and ACTIV trim levels. The feature adds a rotator knob on the center console with which the driver will be able to select between different driving modes. Models with FWD will be able to switch between Normal and Snow mode, while AWD adds Off-Road mode. The vehicle automatically adjusts the performance of its propulsion system to best tackle whatever type of driving you’ll be doing.
Advanced Safety Technologies
On today’s market, providing the very best driver-assistive safety technologies and other safety-enhancing features is key. The Equinox doesn’t fall short in that regard by offering Chevy Safety Assist as a standard feature. It includes Automatic Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian and Bicyclist Braking, Following Distance Indicator, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning and IntelliBeam automatic high beams.
In addition to Chevy Safety Assist, the Equinox offers a host of other great standard safety features, including the following:
- Enhanced Lane Keep Assist
- Rear Park Assist
- Rear Cross Traffic Braking
- Enhanced Automatic Emergency Braking
- Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Rear Seat Reminder
- Rear Vision Camera
- Side Bicyclist Alert
- Teen Driver
