Meet the 2025 Ford F-150 Lightning Truck

Published on Apr 17, 2025 by Titus-Will Cars

For 48 straight years, the Ford F-Series has been America's best-selling truck, and the F-150 Lightning is an all-electric pickup set to carry that title for future generations. Our Titus-Will team in Tacoma, Washington, wants to share with you what makes the F-150 Lightning a compelling option for drivers wanting an eco-friendly, tech-laden pickup.

Evolution of the Lightning Series

Ford successfully debuted its F-150 Lightning in 2022, blending familiar design features with futuristic elements and cutting-edge technology. The F-150 Lightning has excellent road manners, pickup utility, and a well-planned interior.

Ford designed this electric vehicle (EV) for drivers with routine towing needs who want the utility of a truck bed and want to save money at the pump. A spacious frunk gives you more storage area, which you won't find on traditional gas-powered trucks. Ford's vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability lets you power tools and generators at the job site or supply power to an entire house for up to three days.

Key Innovations and Updates for 2025

The 2025 model Lightning comes without any significant changes, but its technology got even smarter. In addition to the largest front trunk of any electric pickup, the Lightning has new exterior lighting, standard Ford Co-Pilot360 2.0, and the Pro Power Onboard system with outlets in the cab and bed.

A new 12-inch productivity screen has connected tech that updates over the air with the Ford Power-Up Software Updates, keeping your in-vehicle technology optimized without you having to lift a finger.

Ford Lightning Performance Insights

The Ford F-150 Lightning brings the power with an available extended-range battery with an estimated range of 320 miles. Dual onboard charging outlets allow you to recharge overnight and start the day with full battery power. The Lightning's Intelligent Range system lets you know how many miles you have based on current outside conditions.

The F-150 Lightning tows up to 10,000 pounds and hauls up to 2,000 pounds thanks to the highest torque output of any F-150 ever. Ford's high-strength military-grade aluminum-alloy body and fully boxed steel frame also have something to do with its towing prowess.

Ford protects the dual electric inboard motors within the chassis. An improved, innovative thermal system, a sealed battery, and durable skid plates provide maximum protection. You'll find a more agreeable ride thanks to its lower center of gravity and independent rear suspension system that keeps body roll to a minimum.

Ford Lightning Towing and Payload Capacity

Every F-150 Lightning model comes standard with two electric motors for all-wheel-drive capability. The Standard Range battery produces 452 horsepower and 775 lb-ft of torque. Opting for the Extended Range battery boosts the output to 580 horsepower. The Lightning isn't just powerful; it's fast, rocketing to 60 mph in 4 seconds and clocking a quarter mile in 12.7 seconds at 107 mph.

EV Motor Power and Capabilities

The F-150 Lightning with the Standard Range battery can tow up to 7,700 pounds and haul up to 2,000 pounds in the bed. The Extended Range battery boosts towing capacity to 10,000 pounds, opening up more possibilities for your towing needs.

Driving Range and Battery Life of The Ford Lightning

The F-150 Lightning range will take you wherever you need to go. The Standard Range 98 kWh battery can travel up to 230 miles on a single charge. Upgrading to the Extended Range 131 kWh battery gets you up to 320 miles. You can charge at home with a 110- or 220-volt outlet. At public DC fast-charging stations, the F-150 Lightning can charge from 15 percent to 80 percent in just 44 minutes, getting you back on your road trip after a quick lunch break.

Ford's V2L system operates as a power outlet for nearly every imaginable tool and can be used as a backup generator for your entire house. The F-150 Lightning can power your house for up to three days for the average household in the event of an extended power outage.

Real-World Range Efficiency

The EPA estimates the F-150 Extended Range battery gets up to 78 MPGe in the city and 63 MPGe on the highway. Standard Range models come with slightly lower ratings of 76 MPGe on surface roads and 61 MPGe on the freeway.

Interior Design and Connectivity

Inside the F-150 Lightning's cabin, you'll find many of the same features as in its gas-fed sibling but with a few notable differences. You're limited to the crew cab with a 5.5-foot bed, which most people don't find to be an issue at all.

The F-150 Lightning comes standard with a 12-inch infotainment display powered by the Sync 4 OS. The Lariat and Platinum models upgrade to a 15.5-inch screen. All systems have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, and Wi-Fi hot spot capability.

Key Safety Features and Driver-Assistance Systems

The Ford Co-Pilot360 suite of driver-assistance technologies lets you drive with confidence. You'll get precollision assist, blind-spot assist, reverse brake assist, and adaptive cruise control systems to help you stay safe on the busy Tacoma-area streets.

These systems use advanced radar and optical systems to monitor your F-150 Lightning, alerting you to potential hazards. If you react slowly, some systems engage emergency brake support to help you mitigate or avoid a possible accident.
