2025 Toyota Camry What's New & Hybrid Only Powertrain

A lot of models on the Toyota lineup have been unveiled for the 2025 model year, including a pretty significant change to the legendary Camry. The Toyota Camry is one of the most iconic vehicles on the roads today, building its legacy over the past four plus decades since its inception in 1982. The Camry has undergone plenty of changes and offered many variants through the years, including of course the Camry Hybrid. But this year the midsize sedan is going exclusively hybrid, offered only with its hybrid powertrain option. We’ll touch on these details and cover what else is new in the vehicle today!

Toyota as a whole has been largely turning towards hybridization over the past few years, which should come as no surprise considering the automaker’s history. They were the company that introduced the first mass-produced hybrid vehicle, the Prius, and have always had a large stable of hybrid options. Now that electrification is spreading across the market, it’s not that much of a stretch to see Toyota becoming one of the first brands to really start getting away from their gas-only powertrain options.

For the 2025 Toyota Camry, that means it will be powered exclusively by the Toyota Hybrid System 5 tethered to a 2.5L four-cylinder engine capable of generating a total of 225 horsepower combined when equipped with the front-wheel drive system, or 232 hp with the Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive system. That’s a very respectable amount of power, especially when you realize that it also achieves 51 miles per gallon combined on the Camry LE FWD trim level.

While this does mean customers will have fewer options to choose from, it also means that every Camry model offers the very best in performance and efficiency no matter which trim level you select.

Another change to the vehicle, also having to do with the powertrain, is that the engineers tuned the Toyota Hybrid System 5 to provide a more natural feeling acceleration to make up for the new speed of the engine.
