For the first time ever, the legendary Toyota Tacoma will be offered with an i-FORCE MAX hybrid engine. With electrification taking the entire industry by storm, and a vast majority of the Toyota lineup now offering hybrid powertrain options, we’re absolutely stoked for the Tacoma to finally take the plunge. The Tacoma won’t be exclusively hybrid either, so those drivers who still cling to their gas-powered engines can rejoice as shoppers will have multiple options from which to choose. With that in mind, we thought we’d highlight the engine specs of both the new i-FORCE MAX hybrid powertrain as well as the gas-only i-FORCE engine, and highlight any other exciting or new features found in the all-new, next-generation 2024 Toyota Tacoma.
The standard, non-hybrid powertrain found beneath the hood of the 2024 Toyota Tacoma will be a 2.4L i-FORCE turbocharged inline-four cylinder engine capable of generating an impressive 278 horsepower alongside 317 pound-feet of torque. For those who want true power, however, we recommend an upgrade to one of the trim levels powered by the hybrid engine, which is a 2.4L i-FORCE MAX turbocharged inline-four cylinder. It boosts performance up to 326 hp and an astonishing 465 lb-ft. of torque. Despite the previous generation being powered by a gasoline V6 engine, this new hybrid four-cylinder engine offers a 75% boost in power. Plus, the i-FORCE MAX achieves a combined fuel economy rating of 24 miles per gallon.
As for trailering, the 2024 Tacoma Hybrid will be able to haul up to 6,000 pounds, while the gas-only engine increases up to 6,500 lbs. depending on the trim level. How much you can haul in the truck bed itself ranges between the trims as well, with the TRD Pro powered by the i-FORCE MAX Hybrid engine capable of 1,680 pounds and the max payload overall being 1,709 lbs. But these capabilities aren’t the only ones that the Tacoma delivers, as this year its off-road capabilities have definitely been enhanced as well.
For example, one huge new feature found in the 2024 Tacoma is a Stabilizer Disconnect Mechanism. This feature will be standard on both the Trailhunter and TRD Pro trims, but you can add it to the TRD Off-Road as well if you wish. What it does is increase the articulation of the vehicle’s suspension with just a simple button push. And don’t worry if you’re the type that likes to install lift kits, as long as it’s a Toyota-approved kit it’ll be compatible with this great new feature.
Here are a few other off-road and trailering specs and features we’re excited about:
Naturally, this is just a small sample of everything that the all-new, next-generation 2024 Toyota Tacoma has to offer. It of course also comes standard with the latest Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 suite of advanced driver-assistive safety features. This includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Control, Lane Tracing Assist, Road Sign Assist, Automatic High Beams and Proactive Driving Assist.
